1 April 2016 – Business Meeting

Come and join us Friday night at 7:30 pm* for a Protogrove Business Meeting. We’ll be discussing:
  • Protogrove Business: May Day/Bealtaine celebration plans – finalize BotO, any special plans, so that websites can be posted
  • PROTOGROVE BYLAWS
  • The Runes Ac, Aesc, Yr, Ior, and Ear: Oak, Ash, Longbow, Beaver, and Grave
NOTE: The Bay Area Bridge over I-45 is CLOSED for the next few months. If you typically visit us via 45, allow some extra time for detours!

This week begins our final discussion of Protogrove Bylaws, and that will take the majority of the evening. Come prepared to have some good discussion on how we want to structure our grove, how we want to structure membership, how we want our officer core to look, any special statements we want to include as part of our legal structure, and other topics. Jacob has been leading our bylaws efforts, but this must be a group decision.

Our Protogrove decision structure necessitates consensus between the founding members of the group (Jacob, Lauren, and Ryan – and Jen, who will not be with us for the time being), and that will be the structure by which we make some of the decisions about how the grove will be structured. However, we fully expect and desire input from the newer members of the group.

We will also be FINISHING the runes this week, with the last five Anglo-Saxon runes all in one lump. This means we need to move forward with a new divination system – and Lauren is looking for volunteers, because she has little/no experience with Ogham or the Greek Alphabet Oracle. If you want to lead this section of our study meetings, please talk with Lauren about what is expected for these short presentations.

See you there.

25 March 2016 – Study Group Meeting

Come and join us Friday night at 7:30 pm* for a Study Group Meeting. We’ll be discussing:

  • Modern Hospitality: What does it mean to practice hospitality in a modern context
  • Virtues 102: Why Virtue?
  • The Rune Dagaz or Daeg: Day
  • Drawing Down the Moon – Chapter 5

NOTE: The Bay Area Bridge over I-45 is CLOSED for the next few months. If you typically visit us via 45, allow some extra time for detours!

Our discussion this week will be an extension of our virtue discussion focused on hospitality – specifically about modern hospitality practices and how to treat each other hospitably. Hospitality is about society as well as the spirits, so please think on some ways that you practice being hospitable in everyday life (and maybe especially ways that you are hospitable to challenging people). Think about things like thank you notes, “good manners”, offering gas money, sharing food – there are lots of ways to be hospitable.

Our Virtue 102 discussion will be about WHY we choose to live virtuously – and what that means to us as a protogrove, especially as we move forward into drafting our bylaws. As well, we’ll be discussing how we become part of the ancestors, and what living with that as a goal might look like.

If you haven’t been to one of our study meetings before, please feel welcome and join us! I have some intro material that we can discuss as well, to get you up to speed on what ADF and our Protogrove are all about.

See you there.

11 March 2016 – Study Group Meeting and Rehearsal

Come and join us Friday night at 7:30 pm* for a Study Group Meeting.  We’ll be discussing:

  • Ritual Rehearsal: Ostara ritual to Heimdall as our PG Patron – celebrating our first year as a protogrove (with Eostre as gatekeeper)
  • Deity of the Occasion Discussion: Heimdall and Eostre
  • The Rune Othala or Ethel: The Estate
  • Drawing Down the Moon – Chapter 4

NOTE: The Bay Area Bridge over I-45 is CLOSED for the next few months. If you typically visit us via 45, allow some extra time for detours!

Please do some research on Heimdall and Eostre before our meeting. Some links for you, because I happen to have them available:

As Heimdall is our protogrove patron, we will be discussing deepening our relationship with him – you should be able to find plenty of links about him through the wondrous Google Machine. Please utilize that resource to its fullest, and consider reading up on these two deities your homework for the week. You have three days to do it.
